Crest Clean Welcomes Shelving of Employment Laws
New Zealand’s largest privately owned commercial cleaning company CrestClean today welcomed news that Simon Bridges
Employment Relations Amendment Bill is likely to be shelved until after the election.
“The Bill still has flaws in it particularly around controversial section Part 6A: Continuity of Employment, which is a
complicated piece of employment law requiring small businesses to seek legal advice of their obligations,” said Grant
McLauchlan, Managing Director of Crest Commercial Cleaning.
“New Zealand businesses have seen the Bill bounce around the Parliamentary Order Paper for the last 6 months, all the
while hoping that the Minister’s promise of bringing “fairness, flexibility and clarity in employment law” would come
true” said Mr McLauchlan.
“But with the Government now not having the support to pass this Bill, the time has come for Simon Bridges to pull the
Bill from the Order paper and take another look at the real-world impact of Part 6A”.
“In doing so, the Minister would show real leadership by taking the opportunity to make much needed changes that would
help business productivity and competitiveness,” Mr McLauchlan said.
