JUCY takes action to educate tourist drivers
New Zealand owned and operated rental car Company JUCY is taking action with the launch of their new driver safety video, an educational initiative to combat the number of accidents caused by overseas drivers unfamiliar with our unique road conditions and rules.
JUCY has worked with the team at CamperMate to produce the driver safety video as part of the wider GeoZone project to help educate tourist drivers.
The video is played to International drivers with a non-English licence, ahead of collecting their rental vehicle via email link or at branch. It’s currently being translated into German and Mandarin.

Accompanying the video, are printed driver safety tips, given to customers at time of pick up and translated in German and Mandarin. A link to the NZ transport agency website with driver safety information translated in twelve languages is included on customer email confirmations and on the JUCY website.
JUCY owner Tim Alpe says: “These initiatives will go some way to mitigate the risks of overseas-driver confusion and to give NZ drivers confidence that steps are being made to educate our JUCY customers”
The initiatives have been proactively implemented at JUCY’s own cost and are over and above any legal requirement.
JUCY is part of a wider ‘Visitor Driver’ program run by the Land transport agency and also supported by NZ Police and local council. The initial focus is on Southland/Central Otago due to the variable driving conditions and will be rolled out to other regions in the future.
