Decriminalisation is Weak Policy - ALCP
Decriminalisation of cannabis is a weak choice of policy, according to the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party.
ALCP Leader Julian Crawford said rather than decriminalisation, as proposed by the Internet Party's Laila Harre, the
real answer is legalisation accompanied with regulation of cannabis use.
Crawford also believes Laila Harre's call will mislead young and new voters, who will not realise cannabis law reform is
totally opposed by Hone Harawira of the Mana Party, the partner of the Internet Party.
"She is simply trying to capture ALCP votes, while knowing Mr Harawira's prohibitionist views about cannabis," Crawford
said.
"Cannabis users are likely to be just as disappointed with the Internet Party's weak announcement as they are with the
Green Party's failure to promote cannabis legalisation."
Mr Crawford says Ms Harre's action shows policy confusion and lack of coordination within Internet Mana, especially as
Internet Party patron Kim Dotcom was in discussions with ALCP to join the new alliance but that the move was vetoed by
Mr Harawira.
