Comprehensive review shows way forward for Child, Youth and Family
The Public Service Association (PSA) is pleased to have worked with Child, Youth and Family (CYF) to develop a
comprehensive report into workload and work management issues faced by staff at the Government agency.
The PSA represents over 2300 staff working at CYF offices across New Zealand.
Brenda Pilott, PSA National Secretary, said “The PSA endorses this report and its findings, and looks forward to working
alongside CYF to implement the recommendations.”
“The PSA is pleased that unrealistic caseloads that significant numbers of CYF social workers face are recognised, and
that the report proposes an early start in addressing the heaviest workloads.
“Political parties must prioritise extra funding in next year’s Budget for CYF to hire much needed social workers, and
for other agencies who will pick up some of this work.
“The additional demand for social workers will require workforce planning, as not enough are currently being trained.
“PSA members at CYF work hard every day to ensure the safety of some of our most vulnerable children.
“This report follows two years of constructive engagement between the PSA and CYF, and shines as an example for the rest
of the public sector,” said Brenda Pilott.
