Hindu Council congratulates the new Prime Minister of India

It is with the greatest respect the volunteers of Hindu Council of New Zealand convey their sincere and hearty congratulations Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of his swearing-in as the Honourable Prime Minister of the largest democracy in the world, Bharat (India), following Bharatiya Janata Party’s resounding victory in the recent general elections.

“We take this opportunity to humbly register our admiration and congratulations to the people of India, and to the millions of volunteers in India who have tirelessly worked to make this day possible,” said Prof Guna Magesan, General Secretary of Hindu Council of New Zealand.

The world has viewed and learnt from the largest ever democratic event and historic mandate by the people of India in an exercise of their human right of democracy. The people have chosen the champion of human and democratic values, progress, and indeed Dharma (righteousness) in Shri Narendra Modi.

Dr Rajiv Chaturvedi, Public Relations Officer of Hindu Council, said that Mr Modi’s achievements during his time as the Chief Minister of Gujarat have been remarkable and the people of India sincerely hope that he will replicate the success of Gujarat in the whole of India.

At the core, Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Bharat (India) share the common values of democracy, of human rights, and the Dharmic value of not just tolerance but of acceptance, which go beyond just economic motivations.

Both Aotearoa and Bharat have been enriched by the centuries of acceptance of immigrants who have come to their shores in peace, and sometimes in distress from warzones. On the economic front, workforce immigration, trade links, sports exchanges, tourism, exchanges in science and technology, have prospered and gained in strength over the past many decades.

Aotearoa Bharat Friendship Society which was formed during the first Maori Indian Hui (conference) hopes to take the relationship between Aotearoa and Bharat forward through people to people contact programme and organising regular trips to develop friendship and business links.

In the congratulatory message to Mr. Narendra Modi, Hindu Council has said that they would look forward to his visit to New Zealand in near future.

“We hope to be of continued service towards people of both Aotearoa and Bharat and in advancement of our shared values, in the spirit of Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam (the World is a Family)”, the congratulatory message to the Honourable Prime Minister of Bharat has stated.

“We express our wish and confidence that under your leadership, Bharat will advance to yet another golden part of her history and usher in a glorious era of international relations.”
