Zonta supports increased paid parental leave
Zonta International strongly supports an increase to paid parental leave.
Zonta International New Zealand made written and oral submissions in support of Labour MP Sue Moroney’s bill to increase paid parental leave to 26 weeks and welcomes the National Government’s budget announcement yesterday. The increase from 14 weeks to 16 weeks in 2015 and 18 weeks in 2016 is a positive step by the Government but they still have a long way to go to achieve the 26 weeks covered in MP Sue Moroney’s Bill.
Governor Maureen Heine states “Extending paid parental leave recognises the importance of, and supports women in the workforce and any extension of parental leave enables women to stay connected with the workforce while having a reasonable amount of time away from work with their new born babies”
Zonta International is a global service organization with over 30,000 members in 66 countries drawn from business and the professions committed to improving the status of women through a combination of advocacy and service. There are approximately 685 members here in New Zealand.
