Alida Steemson stands for Ohariu
Copywriter Alida Steemson has been announced as the Democrats for Social Credit Party’s candidate for the Ohariu
electorate in Wellington.
Ms Steemson told the Party’s Wellington selection panel that she would stand up for the people in Ohariu, her home
electorate.
“I want people in my electorate to know that my parliamentary vote will not be for sale. When voters say “no” to asset
sales, the TPPA, and GCSB reforms, then “no” it is – there’s no negotiation. Public consultation must mean just that”
she said.
Introduced to theatre as a child, Ms Steemson has loved it ever since. She’s also experienced at directing, producing
and promoting productions. This involvement has given her an understanding of the arts industry and the struggles faced
by artists in New Zealand.
She was elected to the Hamilton Arts Council in 2000, where she allocated funds and worked to facilitate, communicate
and promote arts within the community. This, along with having run her own successful business, has given her a breadth
and depth of experience in management, small business, and customer service.
Ms Steemson has two school-age children, giving her a good insight into the workings of New Zealand’s education system
and the problems it faces. She is passionate about valuing one of our most important assets: our teachers, particularly
early educators.
