Labour Party unemployment target a breath of fresh air
Kiwi workers should welcome the Labour Party’s goal of 4% unemployment and Budget surpluses when it leads the next government.
“For the past six years we’ve had a government with no coherent strategy and no desire to create skilled, secure, high-value jobs for Kiwis,” says Bill Newson, national secretary of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union.
“We know that 4% unemployment and government surpluses aren’t a hoax. The last Labour government achieved both, following a National-led government which ran up debt and unemployment.
“Together with their policies to support manufacturing and restore basic employment rights for working people which have been taken away under National, Labour is proving itself to be a party with a plan and a vision of a New Zealand which works for everyone.”
The EPMU represents over 30,000 workers in industries such as manufacturing, aviation, mining and postal services.
