Steel and Tube workers get a fair deal
Workers at Steel and Tube have reached a mutually agreeable settlement with their employer which has brought an end to a period of industrial action.
The workers, who are members of the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union and First Union, had been taking action since February.
“Our members at Steel and Tube are really proud of the way they’ve stood together for what they believe in, and we’re all looking forward to getting the relationship with the company back on track,” says John Kaye, the EPMU advocate for the Steel and Tube workers.
“We’ve been able to come to an agreement which includes maintaining the current hours-of-work clauses, and we’ll work with the company over the next year to figure out a mutually acceptable way forward.”
The agreement was ratified yesterday by a vote of the union members at Steel and Tube.
“This is a great result for everyone. It shows workers get taken seriously when they’re in the union,” says John Kaye.
