TV3 will have comprehensive coverage of the 2014 Budget, with expert analysis of the consequences for New Zealand business, the impact on ordinary Kiwis – and what this means for the General Election.
Special coverage begins this weekend, with The Nation. TV3’s influential political programme will hold the first multi-party debate of this election year, ahead of Thursday’s Budget. The economic spokespeople from the six smaller parliamentary parties will debate the economic direction of the country and the ‘hip-pocket issues’ that matter most to voters.
Russel Norman (Greens), Winston Peters (New Zealand First), Peter Dunne (United Future), Chris McKenzie (Maori Party), Jamie Whyte (ACT) and John Minto (Mana) will join host Lisa Owen, to debate the issues likely to be decisive in this year’s election – housing, taxes, superannuation, jobs, wages and the newly contentious topic of monetary policy. Owen will be joined by 3 News Political Editor Patrick Gower and lawyer and broadcaster Linda Clark for analysis of the debate, and a look ahead to Budget Day.
On Thursday, Lisa Owen will host the 3 News Budget Special, a definitive look at the 2014 Budget, broadcast LIVE on TV3 and streamed at 3news.co.nz/decision14. Owen will be joined in the Auckland studio by Westpac Chief Economist Dominick Stephens and political commentators Fran O’Sullivan and Josie Pagani, and from Parliament by 3 News Political Editor Patrick Gower.
The 3 News Budget Special will cross LIVE to Parliament for key moments from Finance Minister Bill English’s Budget Speech, and seek the views of key party leaders with interviews with Winston Peters (New Zealand First), Russel Norman (The Green Party) and David Parker (Labour). Viewers will be invited to share their reaction via Twitter, text and email.
The 3 News special will screen at 2pm, Thursday 17 May on TV3, and be streamed LIVE at 3news.co.nz/decision14. It will be followed by comprehensive coverage in 3 News at 6pm, Campbell Live and The Paul Henry Show, plus continuously updated content at 3news.co.nz/decision14.
The following weekend, The Nation’s Budget coverage continues, with in-depth interviews with Finance Minister Bill English and Labour leader David Cunliffe.
