MEDIA RELEASE
BRING BACK OUR GIRLS RALLY – WELLINGTON and CHRISTCHURCH
On Wednesday, 14th May 2014, supporters of the young innocent school girls abducted in north eastern Nigeria will be
holding rallies in Wellington and Christchurch to ask the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable John Key to add his voice
to the call for the safe return of these girls to their parents. The details for the rallies are:
Wellington Christchurch
Walk from Civic Square to Parliament Cathedral Square
12 noon 4pm
On behalf of these girls, their desperate parents and the extended Nigerian community in New Zealand, we are asking the
government of New Zealand, as a respected broker in the international committee of nations, to use every ounce of
leverage it has to assist in bringing these innocent girls home.
Change-A-Life volunteers in Wellington and Christchurch are organising this rally in solidarity with the abducted girls
and their families in Nigeria. Our primary aim is to raise awareness about the plight of the abducted innocent girls and
potentially get the Nigerian government to secure the release of these girls within the shortest time possible.
The founder of Change-A-Life Nigeria, Ms. Funmi Iyanda is a Young Global Leader (YGL) who was to participate and also
moderate a session at the ongoing World Economic Forum in Abuja, Nigeria. In withdrawing from her participation at the
last minute as part of her stance to call for the safe return of these innocent girls, Ms. Iyanda said, “I have always
chosen to stand on the right side of history and on this issue, as a Nigerian, my immediate concern is rallying support
and generating interest to pressure the government into rescuing those girls, reassuring Nigerians, supporting the
families and fighting Boko Haram.”
