Honouring ANZACs Needs More than Words
"Government must do more than give lip service to veterans," says Conservative Party Leader Colin Craig.
"There are still many veterans who fought for our country under instructions from our government, who have not received proper compensation for injury and harm suffered in the line of duty."
"Exposure to defoliants, radiation, and stressful battle situations often does permanent harm, and as a country we can best honour our troops by ensuring they are properly compensated for harm suffered."
"The Conservative Party is also opposed to the continued reduction in trained defence personnel. Investment in our armed services is like insurance," says Conservative Party Leader Colin Craig, "you don’t call on it often, but when you do, you realise that paying for comprehensive cover is the smart move."
"The Conservative Party supports a gradual increase in defence spending, and a reversal of the policy leading to civilianisation of armed forces personnel. The party also supports New Zealand re-joining ANZUS as a full non-nuclear partner."
"New Zealand has a proud military history. We have served with other nations, and given much for the cause of peace, security and liberty. While ANZAC day is an opportunity to remember, it should also be a day where we resolve to continue to play our part in the fight for peace, security and liberty."
