Save The Children New Zealand Welcomes New Treaty Strengthening Children’s Rights.
Save the Children New Zealand welcomes a new treaty which allows children to complain directly to the UN Committee on
the Rights of the Child about alleged violations of their rights.
Known as the Optional Protocol for the Convention on the Rights of the Child on a Communication Procedure, or OPC, the
treaty marks a new era for child rights.
Children will now have the same chance as adults to bring their complaints before an international body when their
rights are violated.
Sadly children’s rights are violated every day, whether through violence, exploitation and abuse.
This treaty will give voice to children’s testimonies and help them to get the necessary remedy and reparation.
