ACC reflects on passing of great Kiwi and 'Father' of ACC
Today is a very sad day for ACC, as news of the passing of Sir Owen Woodhouse has become public knowledge.
ACC Chief Executive, Scott Pickering, said "We in ACC have tremendous respect, admiration and affection for Sir Owen,
because he, is quite rightly regarded as the chief architect of the ACC scheme.
"The scheme, and its basis of twenty-four hour, no fault injury cover for all New Zealanders and visitors, remains one
of the most innovative, far sighted social initiatives ever implemented, either here in New Zealand or abroad.
"Sir Owen's influence also extends well beyond ACC, and he had a distinguished legal career and service record during
World War Two.
"I had the great privilege of meeting Sir Owen at his home late last year. He was a family man and his long life has
been one of service and humility.
"ACC has extended our deep sympathy to the Woodhouse family, and I know that, like me, many New Zealanders will be
taking time right now to reflect on the enormous contribution Sir Owen made to his country over his life time."
