On Sunday in Kia Korero Mai, Eru talks to Wharehoka Wano, an education management consultant, on the National Centre of
Literacy and Numeracy's plan for a series of hui to help it develop a Maori strategy. Wharehoka says even though NCEA
results are improving, there are still too many Maori school leavers and adults who don't have the necessary skills in
reading, writing and counting to contribute fully. He says in many cases Maori parents can best help their children by
upgrading their own literacy levels, and they should stop being whakama and sign up for the courses that are available
