New oil and gas exploration areas- Simon Bridges what ARE you DOING?

Oil Free Otautahi supporters are today reeling at the recent announcement by Simon Bridges of the breathtakingly massive new areas now up for oil and gas exploration in New Zealand. This comes after our recent 'Fossil Fools Day' action highlighting the idiocy of fossil fuel exploration in NZ while the world is calling out for a clean energy future. The IPCC recently declared the coming decades a time for climate responsibility- yet the government is steadfastly ignoring the science and belligerently sticking to their fossil fuel agenda.

"Simon Bridges is defending further exploration for fossil fuels at a time when there is every environmental, social, and economic incentive to utilise our clean energy opportunities. We want a government that will act as global citizens and take appropriate action on climate change; not one willing to bend over backwards for a dying fossil fuel industry." Says Oil Free Otautahi organiser, Siana Fitzjohn.

OFO stand in solidarity and outrage with the numerous climate campaigning groups around the country. New Zealanders will not tolerate our country becoming the last post for industries that write off the destruction of our environment as collateral damage. We're better than that- and the government should prepare for their fossil fuel agenda to be met with resistance every step of the way.
