Animal Testing Ban Supported by Cosmetics Industry
“Calls for amendment to the Animal Welfare Act to exclude testing on Animals for Cosmetics in New Zealand are supported
by the New Zealand industry” said Garth Wyllie Executive Director of the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association.
“However the law change being called for will have no impact since there is no animal testing done in New Zealand by any
of the Cosmetic brands sold in New Zealand” he said
The Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association which represents 112 member companies of which 80% are New Zealand
exporters, welcomes the move to demonstrate our opposition to animal testing and support the understanding in
international markets that New Zealand does not test on animals for its cosmetic products.
“The focus of many of our members is toward natural based products and animal testing is not consistent with that move.
Internationally the industry has opposed animal testing with viable alternates now used,” said Mr Wyllie
‘The change proposed to the Animal Welfare Act by the Greens just sets in law what is already industry practice within
New Zealand’, he said
