New LGNZ services to lift council governance and performance
Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) is pleased to launch EquiP, its Centre of Excellence delivering tailored services, best practice guidance, business solutions, governance and management support to strengthen the local government sector.
EquiP works directly with council staff and elected members to provide customised guidance and tools to drive better efficiency of action and effect throughout local government activities.
“The services and guidance provided by EquiP will improve strength, capability and excellence across the local government sector,” LGNZ President Lawrence Yule says.
“In order to deliver strong local government in New Zealand, we need to have high standards of governance and performance. While there are many strong performers, we need to lift the bar higher and there is real appetite among our members to up-skill.”
EquiP provides Executive Recruitment Services dedicated to working with mayors, chairs, councils and employment committees. The complete end-to-end employment search and selection service is backed by LGNZ’s extensive local government experience and intimate knowledge of the sector.
The EquiP Executive Performance Programme is designed to improve executive performance by providing chief executives and senior management with the practical and guidance tools necessary to confidently deliver effective results for New Zealand communities.
LGNZ has also partnered with the Institute of Directors (IoD) to deliver KnowHow workshops tailored to local authorities to give grounding in core governance, leadership and strategic skills. The series of five workshops will offer professional governance training to local authorities around the country.
“Local government staff and elected members should run the councils they are entrusted to operate with the governance skills, financial knowledge and risk management expertise of leading professionals. LGNZ’s EquiP and workshops offered by LGNZ’s KnowHow developed with the IoD can benefit councils across all of New Zealand.”
EquiP is a limited partnership wholly owned by LGNZ that operates as a commercially sustainable venture for the benefit of members to up-skill the sector through a collaborative knowledge sharing approach.
