Te Ata Toa Position on New NZ flag
Te Ata Tino Toa hopes NZers will have their thinking caps on when they vote in the flag referendum this year.
However, the group has no position on what flag is chosen as a result of the referendum.
'Maori have decided on our flag. The vision of Te Ata Tino Toa is that the new NZ flag will fly alongside the Maori flag for ake tonu atu,' says Te Ao Pritchard.
'It's a treaty thing, the two flags will fly side by side.'
The group says that if the New Zealand identity is moving toward being based in the South Pacific, that is a good thing.
'The sooner we address the cultural cringe in this country, the sooner we can address insecurities about Maori having a strong, local identity.
A new NZ flag should address a NZ based identity for non-Maori NZers.
