Spoof gets Overwhelming Response
Today the Conservative Party publically launched a campaign mimicking the Greens call to fund Russell Norman’s defamation defence.
“I think the Greens campaign is completely misleading. Russell Norman is trying to turn his make-believe statements into some sort of moral crusade,” says Colin Craig. “The fact is he lied about my viewpoints, and now he’s trying to cover that up.”
Today’s response was suggested by Conservative Party members and supporters who wanted to be part of holding Mr Norman to account.
“Frankly the support has been overwhelming. Pledges are coming in so fast we are struggling to get an up to date number, however our goals to get 500 pledges and raise $50,000 have already been exceeded.”
“The public are really excited about raising the level of political debate. The most common response I’m hearing is that ‘it’s about time someone took a stand.’ Total strangers are approaching me just to express their support,” Mr Craig says.
“It’s becoming clear that New Zealanders are truly tired of the low standard of political debate, and of politicians who think they have a licence to lie when it suits their interests."
