Suing Robert Muldoon and doing time: from anti-apartheid to Project Waitangi
A look back at race relations in the 1980s and 1990s is on this Thursday, 13th February as the Labour History Project
(formerly the Trade Union History Project) holds this year’s Rona Bailey Memorial Lecture. The title of the talk is:
‘Suing Robert Muldoon and doing time: from anti-apartheid to Project Waitangi’.
In the later 1980s Rona Bailey was actively involved in establishing Project Waitangi, a community organisation which
sought to educate Pākehā around the Treaty, in light of the approaching 1990 sesquicentennial of the Treaty's signing.
Over a number of years a network of Project Waitangi groups achieved much to educate Pākehā about the history and
meanings of the Treaty. This work raised a number of issues in the broader context of progressive politics in this
country.
The speaker is Robert Consedine. He has had a long and varied involvement in progressive politics, and for many years
now has conducted his own Treaty education consultancy as Waitangi Associates.
All are welcome. Admission is by koha, and refreshments will be served.
