'Like going easy on arsonists with flame-throwers', Brown
Monday February 3rd, 2014 – Hobart, Australia — The Chair of Sea shepherd Australia, Bob Brown, has called for the Australian and New Zealand governments to assert their authority and policy by intervening to protect the whales now being hunted by the Japanese whaling fleet in both counties' sanctuaries.
"Yesterday's clashes between the Sea Shepherd Australia ships and Japanese harpoon ships showed high seas brigandry by the Japanese with no sign of the post-election commitment of a surveillance plane from the Australian government, let alone its pre-election promise of a surveillance Customs vessel."
"Instead we get the Abbott and Key Governments waggling their distant fingers at both sides and calling on everyone to take it easy. That's like the Volunteer Bushfire Brigade coming across a mob of arsonists with flame-throwers and the ministers calling on them to leave each other alone. "
"Either these governments support whaling or they oppose it. If they oppose it they should get down to the International Whale Sanctuary and stop it," Brown said.
"Meanwhile, I keep telling our Sea Shepherd crews about the huge public support they have in both countries," he said.
