Where’s Len?

While most of Auckland returns to work, a timid mayor hides. While you show up to work to earn your paycheck, a timid mayor hides. While you read the front page of today’s paper, a timid mayor hides…and hopes… hopes that eventually the scandal will blow over and everything can return to normal.

It won’t.

“With thirty-seven days until the Len Brown Stand Down march, Len is still adopting the tactics of a frightened tortoise and remains steadfastly in his shell.” Affordable Auckland’s Stephen Berry is wondering, “How long will it take him to realise the uproar against his actions will not go away? When will accept that he must resign?”

“The simple fact that Len has still not emerged to face the ratepayers of Auckland and resume doing his job is proof enough that he recognises he no longer has the moral authority to continue in his position. To draw upon his quarter of a million dollar salary while remaining a silent lame duck is simply a continuation of the unacceptable behaviour which got him into this position..”

A new nail in Len’s political coffin has also emerged in the form of private prosecution by retired Wellington accountant Graham McCready. Len Brown may face a trial on corruption charges for accepting over $4000 in undeclared hospitality from Sky City. “It doesn’t matter how long Len hides away,” Berry says. “The number of indiscretions are piling up and they will be in the news continually now. Come on Len, it’s time to go!”

The Len Brown Stand Down march is being organised by Affordable Auckland and will be held on Saturday 22 February at 12 noon.. The march is to start from Britomart, up Queen Street to Aotea Square.
