Categories set for Public Sector Excellence Awards
Public sector organisations are being encouraged to consider what projects or initiatives they could submit for the 2014
IPANZ Gen-i Public Sector Excellence Awards, to be held on 2 July 2014 at the TSB Arena, Wellington.
The Awards celebrate and reward public sector excellence, across eight award categories. The categories and criteria are
now available at: www.ipanz.org.nz/excellenceawards and nominations will be accepted from 20 January – 3 March 2014.
IPANZ President John Larkindale says, “A new award category for 2014 is Excellence in Regulatory Systems. This award
recognises an agency that has applied regulatory systems thinking to ensure that the outcomes of a regulatory system are
achieved effectively.”
The eight categories are:
• Integrity and Trust
• Crown – Maori Relationships
• Improving Public Value through Business Transformation
• Digital Government
• Achieving Collective Impact
• Improving Performance through Leadership Excellence
• Public Sector Communications
• Excellence in Regulatory Systems
One of the category winners is awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Public Sector Excellence. The 2013 winner of the
Prime Minister's Award for Public Sector Excellence was the Ministry of Social Development's communications campaign,
'It's OK to Help'.
“We invite nominations from the wider public sector including central government departments, local government
organisations, Crown entities (including district health boards, Crown research institutes and other Crown entity
companies), tertiary education institutions in the state sector and state-owned enterprises. In 2013, a record number –
80 nominations – were received,” Mr Larkindale says.
“We encourage nominations for public sector projects or initiatives that promote excellence in terms of vision,
innovation and the achievement of results. Specific criteria apply in each category.”
