Rob McCann selected as Otaki Candidate

Communication specialist Rob McCann has been selected as the Labour candidate for the Otaki electorate at a keenly contested selection meeting.

“I’m honoured to accept the nomination to represent the people of Otaki,” says Rob McCann. “I will listen to the concerns of our electorate and do my best to ensure the people of our community are represented.

“The people in our region are keenly interested in politics as demonstrated by the Asset Sales Referendum. Our area had the highest participation rate in New Zealand and 66% said ‘NO’.

“The government has already revealed their intention not to listen to the people, a position echoed by Nathan Guy. That is unacceptable and demonstrates an arrogance and contempt for the people of New Zealand.

“We have a high number of retirees in this electorate and many of our assets were built on the back of their hard work. It is a slap in their faces that Mr Guy and the suits in Wellington have continued with this fire sale, destroying the wealth of our country.”

Other nominees at Saturday’s selection meeting included second term Paraparaumu councillor Penny Gaylor and newcomer Jade Teki; all three nominees participated in an hour long question and answer session before delivering fifteen minute speeches.
