All Welcome to Walk with Zonta!
Zonta says No’ - STOP
Violence against Women and Girls
As
part of a global campaign, the Zonta Club of Wellington will
be taking a Walk in the Park to highlight the need to STOP
violence against women and girls in
Wellington.
The community is invited to
walk with us to demonstrate our solidarity as well as
drawing attention to the growing problem of violence against
women and girls in our city and indeed New Zealand. Please
support us with your presence, bring along your family and a
picnic to support and linger with the throng.
We will
meet at the Wellington Civic Square on Sunday 24th
November at 10.00am for a 10.30am start. Statements of
support for the campaign will be made by Wellington Mayor,
Celia Wade-Brown and Zonta International President, Lynn
McKenzie. The walk will finish at Waitangi Park.
The
sexual violence of women and girls is endemic in New Zealand
and this has been blatantly brought to our attention over
the past weeks.
Zonta International members throughout the
world are prepared to stand up and be counted. Our global
campaign Zonta says No – stop violence against
women and girls starts on the 25 November 2013 (which is
also the White Ribbon Day in New Zealand) and will run
through the 16 days of activism against gender violence
until 10 December 2013. Members throughout New Zealand will
be visible in their communities exposing the atrocious
statistics our country has on violence against women and
girls, and communicating the safe environs that are
available to them.
‘Zonta says No’ to violence
in ANY form against women and girls.
Zonta International is a global service organization with over 30,000 members in 65 countries drawn from business and the professions committed to improving the status of women through a combination of advocacy and service. There are approximately 670 members here in New Zealand.
