Referendum Voting Papers On Their Way This Friday

Over three million voting papers will arrive in letterboxes around New Zealand from this Friday as the citizens initiated referendum gets underway.

The citizens initiated referendum asks the question: ‘Do you support the Government selling up to 49% of Meridian Energy, Mighty River Power, Genesis Power, Solid Energy and Air New Zealand?’

“Look out for your voting papers in the mail from Friday 22 November,” says Robert Peden, Chief Electoral Officer.

“Voting in the Referendum is by post only, so you must be enrolled by Thursday 21 November to get your voting papers,” says Mr Peden.

You can check your enrolment details at www.elections.org.nz or phone 0800 36 76 56.

If you have moved house since you last updated your enrolment details, your papers will be sent to your previous address. In that case you have two options:
• apply to have your mail redirected at New Zealand Post or online at www.changemyaddress.co.nz, or
• register to have a replacement voting paper sent to your new or temporary address at www.elections.org.nz

More information about enrolling and voting in the referendum is available at www.elections.org.nz or on 0800 36 76 56.
