The leadership of the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party has changed for the first time in its 17 year history.

Wellington lawyer Michael Appleby stood down after leading the party since 1996.

Dunedin journalist Julian Crawford was elected to replace Mr Appleby at the party's Annual General Meeting this weekend.

Around 30 delegates from around New Zealand voted on the make-up of the executive committee of the ALCP.

The following positions were elected:

Party Leader: Julian Crawford Deputy Leader: Abe Gray Party President: Fred Macdonald Party Secretary: Irinka Britnell Party Treasurer: Paula Lambert Auckland Regional Manager: Jeff Lye Central Regional Manager: Romana Manning Wellington Regional Manager: Alistair Gregory Southern Regional Manager: Steven Wilkinson Te Iwi Manager: Emma-Jane Kingi

Non-voting members:

Vice President: Richard Goode Assistant Secretary: Cheri Hawthorne

ALCP Life Membership:
