Elections 2013: Preliminary results are in
Preliminary results of the Christchurch 2013 local body elections are now in, showing a more accurate picture of how many votes were received.
Results indicate the newly-elected Council will see Christchurch Mayor Elect Lianne Dalziel joined by 13 Councillors – nine of them new to the table, and four re-elected – as they govern Christchurch through the next three years.
While there are no changes to the highest-polling candidates indicated in the progress results earlier today, there is now a five-vote margin between the two highest-polling candidates for Councillor in the Banks Peninsula ward – Andrew Turner (1011 votes) and Nuk Korako (1006 votes).
It’s estimated that by the time all votes are counted, 42.55 per cent of eligible voters will have had their say, compared to 52.15 per cent in 2010, 42.02 per cent in 2007 and 38.77 per cent in 2004.
