20.3 per cent of votes received

If you haven’t already cast your vote in the 2013 Local Government elections time is running out. Voting papers must be returned by 12 noon on Saturday 12 October 2013 if they are to be counted.

To date 20.3% of votes have been received.

If you are not on the Electoral Roll, you can apply to enrol either as a residential elector or ratepayer elector right up to and including Friday 11 October 2013, but you will need to apply to the Electoral Officer for Special Voting documents.

Special Voting will be considered for those who have enrolled after closing of the Electoral Roll, who did not receive, or damaged a voting document previously posted to them, who have recently moved, have attained 18 years of age, become a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, or whose names are on the Unpublished Electoral Roll.

Special voting facilities are available at the Palmerston North City Council’s Customer Service Centre on normal business days between 8.00am and 5.00pm, and also the last day of voting, Saturday 12 October, between 8.00am and 12.00noon.

The Single Transferable Voting (STV) electoral system will be used for elections for Mayor and Councillors. Under this system electors rank candidates according to preference and may rank as many, or as few candidates, as they wish. If you would like to learn more about STV, visit stv.govt.nz.
