Saturday 5th October: All iwi talk about investing in their youth, and Waikato Tainui has long been at the forefront, dating back to the
efforts of leaders like Te Puea Herangi and Robert Te Kotahi Mahuta.
This week more than 100 young people have been at Turangawaewae for the Rangatahi Summit, which is held every two years.
It included cultural activities, works, debates about how to move forward while preserving traditional values, and
presentations from tribal leaders. This Saturday on Kia Korero Mai Eru Morgan talks to organiser Huirama Matatahi about the aims of the summit and what was achieved.
Saturday 6th October: Auckland Maori public health roopu Hapai Te Hauora Tapui Ltd has been at the forefront of the campaign to lower the number of gambling machines in the city's low income
communities.
That effort has been undermined by Government's deal to allow Sky City to increase its pokie numbers in exchange for
building a convention centre.
Auckland mayor Len Brown says he's in favour of the council's sinking lid policy for gambling venues - but he's also in
favour of the Sky City deal that takes away the council's room to move.
Tunuiarangi McLean from Hapai Te Hauora Tapui says that's something mayor Brown needs to square with the voter. On Kia Korero Mai he talks
with Eru Morgan about the damage gambling is doing to Maori and Pacific whanau.
