1750 New Zealanders will Live Below the Line this week for five days
Today marks the start of a powerful and united bid around New Zealand to raise funds and awareness to end extreme global
poverty.
1750 participants from around the country will take part in the Live Below the Line challenge and eat for 2.25 dollars
per day for five days. The campaign challenges individuals and communities to live off the New Zealand equivalent of the
extreme poverty line.
Globally 1.2 billion people currently living in extreme poverty, and all funds raised from Live Below the Line will go
towards crucial anti-poverty initiatives.
Live Below the Line has raised $250,000 dollars so far and are asking New Zealand to take action and give generously to
contribute towards their ambitious goal to raise $500,000.
“I often hear people say ‘Someone should do something about global poverty’. The truth is, we can do something about it.
We can change 1.2 billion people’s lives,” says NZ Director of the Global Poverty Project, Will Watterson.
“Live Below the Line challenge week ahead is your chance to contribute to global change for the better. It is not too
late to sign up for the challenge or donate to a charity of your choice.”
With 23 charity partners on-board, Live Below the Line participants are each raising funds for a selected charity. Live
Below the Line has 8 major charitable partners; World Vision, Oxfam, UNICEF, Childfund, TEAR Fund, P3 Foundation and
VSA.
