Icy Advertising For Porirua Ice Rink

Porirua people are known for their warmth and friendliness but from this weekend, things are going to start getting a little icy in the city.

An ice sculpture featuring frozen ice skates will be installed outside Te Rauparaha Arena on Saturday 21 September while other icy adverts will appear across the Wellington region.

They will be pointing people toward the newly branded ‘Market Quarter’ of Porirua’s city centre where the hugely popular Ice World ice skating rink will be installed next week.

“We’re using this novel approach to promoting the Ice World to attract more ticket sales so we can recoup the cost of bringing the rink to Porirua,” says Mayor Nick Leggett.

The ice skating rink was featured at Wellington’s Queens Wharf the last two years and now people from Kapiti, the Hutt and Wellington can enjoy it again in Porirua City.

“The ice rink is part of the Porirua City Centre Revitalisation Project with the aim of attracting as many people as possible to show them the friendliness, fun and vibrancy our diverse city and people have to offer.

“Families, friends and visitors of all ages will be able to burn off some energy on the ice then take advantage of the Market Quarter’s many and varied restaurants all offering tasty tucker to restore your energy levels.”

The ice rink is opening within the Market Quarter at the former Challenge petrol station site on Hagley Street from 24 September to 21 October 2013, from 10am to 10pm daily.

Mayor Leggett says on some days special time slots from 10am to noon will see parts of the rink sectioned off for the littlies to enjoy the ice while entertainment and fun theme nights are also being planned for the Market Quarter.

The cost is $20 for adults, $15 for children and $50 for a family pass (two adults and two children or 1 adult and 3 children).

The tickets are valid for an unlimited time, provided you remain at the rink (with the exception of brief time away for toilet breaks).
