Look Out For Your Voting Papers – Choose Your New Council
It’s nearly time to vote in the 2013 Local Elections so make use of your vote to increase your chances of having people who represent your views elected to the Council for the next three years.
If you’re enrolled, your voting papers will be sent to you from Friday until the middle of next week. If you don’t receive your voting papers by the end of next week, you will need to cast a special vote at the Council administration building. The voting period runs from 20 September until noon on Saturday 12 October.
The elections are for Porirua City Council (Mayor and 10 Councillors), the Porirua Community Trust, Hutt Mana Charitable Trust and the Capital & Coast District Health Board. Porirua residents don’t need to vote for the Greater Wellington Regional Council as only two candidates stood for the two allocated Porirua representatives so a vote was not required.
Candidate profiles for those standing for the Porirua City Council and the Porirua Community Trust can be found on our website at www.pcc.govt.nz.
Candidate information will also be included with voting papers.
For all elections but the Hutt Mana Charitable Trust (HMCT), simply rank candidates (under the STV voting system) in your preferred order by placing a ‘1’ in the box next to the candidate you most prefer, a ‘2’ beside the candidate you next prefer, and so on. You can rank as many or as few candidates as you like. A detailed explanation of how STV (Single Transferable Vote) works can be found on the stv.govt.nz website.
For the HMCT election which uses the First Past the Post system (FPP) just tick the box for the candidate you select.
Once you’ve filled out your voting papers, simply post them back in the Freepost return envelope. Or if you have to make a special vote, come into the Council’s administration building to pick up your voting papers and make your vote count.
