ROTARY NEW ZEALAND PACIFIC DISASTER APPEAL – 2013/2014
Urgent response is needed now!!!!!!!
In preparation for the cyclone season in the Pacific which most often sees an event happening over the holiday period December/January, we seek public support for our “Disaster Appeal” now to enable us to respond immediately rather than have to launch the appeal in the days following a cyclone, flood, tsunami etc...
In recent years, not only have Rotary distributed through Pacific island clubs Emergency Response Kits (KITS), but also food parcels sufficient for a family of four for one week, additional clothing and other essential items including consumables for evacuation and community health centres.
The Rotary New Zealand Emergency Response Kits are prepositioned with other items in the main purchased locally. A recent on site appraisal by Rotary of some communities likely to be affected revealed that many have a detailed disaster plan in place which includes when necessary relocation to evacuation centres until such time climatic and environmental conditions have reached a point whereby people can return to their communities.
Rotary with local National Disaster Management Offices in collaboration with other agencies operate in clusters to ensure that assistance gets to those most deserving.
Please consider this request as though the disaster had already happened.
