Mayoralty candidate to share vision for Council and Christchurch

Christchurch mayoralty candidate Lianne Dalziel will be outlining her key focuses for the Christchurch City Council, if she is elected in October, at her official campaign launch this Sunday.

“Since I first announced in June that I would run for Mayor, I’ve been busy talking to as many people as I can about their hopes and frustrations,” says Dalziel.

“This is an on-going process and I will be looking to talk to many more people and communities – throughout this campaign and throughout my time as Mayor - if I’m elected.

“As you would expect three years on from the September earthquake, there’s a lot of fatigue and people worn down by EQC and insurance, and that general feeling that people have lost control of their own destinies and the city’s future.

“Incredibly, there is still a sense of hope and this is what we need to re-capture. We need to do everything we can to remove the barriers to progress that are wearing people down – whether we’re talking about households, homeowners or large-scale investors - and get that energy and momentum back around the opportunities that exist to make our city great.

“The first day of Spring seemed to be the perfect time to officially launch my campaign and signal that it’s time for a positive change in Christchurch.”

Sunday 1 September will see Dalziel taking to the central city streets, kicking off the launch with a speech outlining her vision for the future at the start of the Christchurch Arts Festival’s Thx for the Memories exhibition by the Arts Centre on Worcester Boulevard.

Over the coming weeks the candidate will be working her way across the city talking to communities, neighbourhoods and individuals about how we can ensure that Christchurch is a city future generations will be proud to call home.

Sunday’s schedule

11.10am – Official campaign launch, Worcester Blvd
Please join us at the heart of Christchurch’s Art Centre outside the Arts Festival venue in Worcester Street. Lianne will outline her vision for the city and share her dreams for the years ahead.

11.45pm – walk to Thx 4 the Memories photography exhibition
A look at and discussion about the incredible exhibition of photos and memories lining Worcester Blvd. Lianne will be joined by a couple of Avonside residents to talk about the exhibition and their experiences during the earthquakes. We welcome you to share your thoughts, memories and hopes for the future

12.15pm – 12.30pm – CERA & CCC offices
Lianne will be speaking with those directly affected by Red Zone decisions and the hold up on insurance, repairs and rebuilds. We’ll learn how communities are coming together with help, support and plans for the years ahead

12.30pm – 1.30pm – Central city
Join us for an exploration of the inner city where Lianne will be meeting with people and looking closely at the work that is to be done. We’ll take time to consider all that we have lost and talk about how we’re going to replace, rebuild and reimagine Christchurch

1.45 – New Regent Street
Participating in the Random Acts of Kindness event – see www.facebook.com/groovyhousewives. With similar philosophies and a joint desire to increase the happiness and contentment within Christchurch, we’ll be lending a hand to this event and celebrating the great spirit of our city
