Council Contendors Throw Hats In the Ring
Time’s up and 65 people have thrown their hats in the ring as candidates in the upcoming local government elections to be held on Saturday 12 October.
When the deadline for nominations passed at midday today, for the Waikato district there were:
5 nominations for Mayor
23 nominations for Councillors
38  nominations for Community Boards
5 nominations for Te Kauwhata Licensing Trust
Electoral Officer Maria Edgar says the level of interest from the community is similar to that in the 2010 elections.
Comparisons from the 2010 elections include:
3  nominations for Mayor
31  nominations for Councillors
33  nominations for Community Boards
6  nominations for Te Kauwhata Licensing Trust
In the case of Te Kauwhata Licensing Trust where insufficient nominations have been received, a by-election to fill the remaining vacancy will be held at a yet to be agreed date following the October 12 elections.
Please visit the Council website or www.waikatodc.govt.nz/Your-Council/Elections.aspx for the full list of nominations received.
Voting papers will be sent to registered electors from 20-25 September.
Note: Some people have made nominations for more than one position.
