Last two days to enrol for local elections

Last two days to enrol for local elections

Local Government New Zealand, the peak body representing local authorities around New Zealand, says that enrolment for the local authority elections is due to close tomorrow on Friday 16 August.

Voting in council elections gives people an important voice in shaping the future of their community. To vote, however, you must be enrolled.

Anyone added to the roll after Friday, or anyone who changes their electoral roll details, can still vote. However, they will not receive their voting papers through the mail and will have to make a special vote. Special votes are organised by each council’s electoral officer.

“To make voting easy we’re encouraging New Zealanders to get on the roll now,” says LGNZ Chief Executive, Malcolm Alexander.

“To ensure you have a say in the future of your community, and have your voting papers posted to you, make sure you are enrolled by Friday.”

For further information visit www.elections.org.nz, free text your name and address to 3676; call 0800 367656; or go to any post shop and fill in an enrolment form.
