Last week in council was a marathon with over 200 submitting on the Local Alcohol Policy. Bars opening hours cut from a 6am to 5am closing, supermarkets prohibited from serving alcohol after 9pm and more effective policing of drunks in town are some suggestions. What do you think?
Kahurangi School has its official opening Sept 6th. This new school is an amalgamation of Strathmore and Miramar South. While the building has been going on in Strathmore Ave Principal Kyran Smith has been running the school from Miramar South so Kahurangi will be new for all the children.
Active school signs have now been installed at Lyall Bay School to remind you to slow right down when the kids are arriving and departing from school. Have you listened to the school radio station Maranui 106.7 FM?
Promoting Kilbirnie to bring back shoppers will get under way from Aug 26th. Buskers, musicians and a $2000 shop n win competition will be advertised. Are there any other things you think we could do?
Robert Baldock of Westside Studios has a Miramar Festival planned for next March. Theme details haven’t been confirmed but what is Miramar famous for worldwide? Is there something you could possibly offer for this event?
In Seatoun the Bowling Club and RSA and some locals have formed a steering committee to investigate how there could be more of a community facility in the clubrooms in Dundas Street. What sort of stuff do you think could be run there for Seatounites?
In Hataitai the Bowling Club has formed a community trust to own and run the clubrooms for the community. The next monthly market day will be on Saturday the 7th Sept and I hope to be there with some of Swamps “Good Oil”….
Goodbye to The old China Grill building on Rex St Miramar. It is red stickered and has to be bowled. I understand demolition is not far away, the area will be rezoned and residential development will be built on the site.
Keep an eye out for the Swampy Community Caravan. I would love you to stop by for a chat. Otherwise email me if something is going on you’d like me to know about it.
Keep in touch
Cheers
