Tauranga Churches unite to protect mothers and lives of unborn
Right to Life commends the thirty-eight ministers and their congregations, virtually all the denominations in Tauranga
and surrounding areas who have united in protesting at the killing of innocent and defenceless unborn children at the
Family Planning clinic in Tauranga. Family Planning commenced killing unborn children at its Tauranga clinic in April
this year.
The thirty-eight ministers and their churches have made a public commitment to offer love and compassionate help to any
woman facing an unwanted pregnancy. “Our promise is to do all within our power and resources, privately and
confidentially and to call on the infinite love of Jesus Christ to overcome your difficulties and to bring a healthier
solution for you– and life to your precious child.”
We all have a duty to defend life: woe to those who do not defend life. We cannot remain silent while the innocent are
dragged away to their destruction. Abortion is an intrinsic evil and gives great offence to God. The churches have a
special responsibility to speak up in defence of the lives of God’s precious infants who are the weakest and most
defenceless members of the human family. God has a special affection for widows and orphans.
The thirty-eight ministers in Tauranga and their congregations are to be commended for their compassion and for their
commitment to help women distressed with an unplanned pregnancy. This is the first time in our nation’s history that
virtually nearly all the churches in a city have come together to oppose the killing of children and to offer help for
mothers. In making this commitment they are giving a wonderful and inspiring example to all the churches in New Zealand.
The response of the churches is a timely response to the silent cry for help from distressed women to save their baby.
Overseas research reveals that up to eighty per cent of women having an abortion would not have the abortion if help was
available and sixty-four per cent of women reported that they were coerced by others to have an abortion. Women do not
choose to kill their child.
The Family Planning Association holds a licence to kill the unborn at its Tauranga clinic. It has declared war against
women and the unborn. The churches in Tauranga recognise that abortion is violence against women and their unborn and
are giving a clear message that Family Planning is not welcome in Tauranga.
Right to Life joins with the citizens and churches of Tauranga in earnestly requesting that Family Planning act in the
best interest of expectant mothers and their precious unborn. They may do this by respecting and protecting life and by
ceasing the violent destruction of innocent life in utero. They should also encourage mothers to choose life for their
child and to consider open adoption as a loving option.
The certifying consultants who authorise and perform the abortions at the Family Planning clinic at Tauranga have the
blood of the innocent on their hands. Right to Life requests that they should respect the right to life of the unborn
and join the growing number of doctors who respect life and who refuse to be involved with the killing of the unborn.
