Dalziel makes her mayoralty bid official
On the opening day of nominations for the local body elections, Christchurch mayoralty candidate Lianne Dalziel filed
her nomination for the Council's top job in person with her two nominators - former National cabinet minister, Philip
Burdon, and Kaila Colbin, one of the founders of non-profit group Ministry of Awesome.
The support of both represents the types of skills from across the spectrum that Dalziel is hoping to unite in the
rebuild of Christchurch.
“I have the greatest respect for both Philip and Kaila - Philip as an incredibly successful and experienced businessman
and politician and Kaila as a tireless social entrepreneur working hard to fuel innovation in this city and its
communities,” said Dalziel.
“When Philip first stood up and publicly supported my bid it gave me confidence that other people might see that this
election is about more than party politics – it’s about getting the right people at the council table to get this great
city rebuilt.
“We need experience and we need to make sure we've got the doors wide open to innovation. I'm so excited about our
future here. But we get one chance to get it right.
“That’s why I'm stepping up to run for Mayor and I'm looking forward to people with energy and passion for this city
stepping up too.”
The Christchurch East MP is resigning from parliament in order to focus all her energy on Christchurch, and will resign
the day before the election results are declared.
“There should be no doubt about how committed I am to this city and to becoming Mayor,” said Dalziel.
