Party registration process underway

Party registration process underway

08 July 2013 Media releases

The Electoral Commission today received the membership evidence required from the United Future party to complete its application for party registration lodged on 11 June 2013.

The Commission can now undertake the checks that it must carry out on the membership evidence. Following these checks, the Commission must give public notice of the application providing two weeks for public comment. Once public consultation is complete and the applicant has had an opportunity to comment on any public submissions, the Board will make its decision on the application.

Our advice to applicants is that the registration process usually takes 6-8 weeks.

Further information about the requirements and process for party registration is on the Electoral Commission’s website at: www.elections.org.nz/registering-political-party.

The Commission makes no comment on party registration applications while they are being processed.
