BPW NZ – Yes More Women Leaders In Parliament

BPW NZ – Yes More Women Leaders In Parliament

The New Zealand Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW NZ) supports initiatives that will ensure a higher representation of women in Parliament.

BPW NZ welcomes any action that will ensure more women have the opportunity to be elected to Parliament.

“With over 51% of the NZ population being women, their current representation of one third of the total number of MPs falls well short of the ideal, illustrating a lack of leadership in this area,” says Carolyn Savage, BPW NZ President.

“Research shows that positive changes occur in countries where governments are working towards gender equality, setting legal quotas for women representation and increasing women in government. It is good for all areas of business, decision making and growth for the country,” says Mrs Savage.

“The New Zealand Government has signed international instruments for gender equality and BPW NZ wants to see them honoured.

“The growth of our country will increase with gender equality and having equal representation of women and men in Parliament will provide a more balanced perspective in the decision making roles,” says Mrs Savage. “Women are part of the solution.”

"We need more women in Parliament."
