NZRDA Launches the Gingerbread Horse Campaign

NZRDA Launches the Gingerbread Horse Campaign
On Friday 28th June, New Zealand Riding for
the Disabled launched the ‘Gingerbread Horse’ campaign,
asking people to help ‘bake a difference’ in support of
their local RDA Group.
Gingerbread Horse is a brand
new community-led fundraising campaign, based around the
idea of individuals, businesses and schools in the local
community registering as Gingerbread Horse Bakers, then
baking and decorating 24 Gingerbread Horse biscuits using
the items provided in their Registration Pack.
During
the week of 29th July (which is NZRDA Awareness Week),
Bakers will then be asked to sell their tasty biscuits to
friends, family, workmates and the general public. The
funds raised from these sales are then banked with NZRDA and
distributed to the nominated RDA Groups, which in turn
allows RDA to continue making a difference to the lives of
children and adults in the disabled
community.
Gingerbread Horse Spokesperson and NZRDA
Ambassador, Melanie Kerr, says that anyone can become a
Gingerbread Horse Baker.
“All you need are the
basic skills and creativity to bake and decorate the
biscuits, and the motivation to sell them to the community.
It’s a fun way to support your local RDA Group and to help
them be able to make such a positive difference to the lives
of the Riders.”
There are five key steps to the
Gingerbread Horse Campaign:
Register on the website
www.gingerbreadhorse.co.nz as an individual, business /
community group or school. Once Bakers have paid their $5
registration fee, they will be sent a Registration Pack,
containing everything they need to start baking for RDA -
including a horse-shaped cookie cutter and recipe
card.
Bake 24 yummy biscuits during NZRDA Awareness
Week (29th July), using the recipe and horse-shaped cookie
cutter provided. The recipe is simple and easy to follow,
and uses ingredients found in most pantries at home. NZRDA
have also included a special ‘how to’ video on the
website, with Spokesperson Melanie Kerr baking and
decorating Gingerbread Horse biscuits in her kitchen.
Decorate the biscuits however the Baker likes; from
dipping them in melted chocolate to icing them and adding
sprinkles on top. This is your chance to get creative! Once
the biscuits are decorated, Bakers use the supplied bags and
stickers are used to package the Gingerbread biscuits ready
for sale.
Sell the biscuits during NZRDA Awareness
Week (29th July) to friends, family, workmates and the
public for just $2 per biscuit. To help with this Bakers
will receive an advertising posters in their Registration
Pack, as well as a handy guide detailing the different ways
Bakers can sell their biscuits.
Donate the proceeds
from your Gingerbread Horse biscuits sales to Riding for the
Disabled.
After all donations are finalized, Bakers
will be sent a certificate of thanks and prizes will be
announced for Best Decorated Biscuit and Most Money
Raised.
Melanie Kerr also says that there is a special
incentive for people to register as a Baker, courtesy of
Peter Shakes Jeweller.
“Anyone who registers as a
Gingerbread Horse Baker and raises funds for RDA, will go
into the draw to win a special horse-shaped Web of Gold
necklace. This 9ct white gold piece comes with a silver
Omega chain, and is valued at over $1,000 - it has been
specially designed for Gingerbread Horse by Peter Shakes
Jeweller.”
Registrations for the NZRDA Gingerbread
Horse campaign will be open from today until Friday 26th
July 2013.
Ends.
