Cannabis mulled by Native Affairs despite ALCP exclusion
The Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party candidate in the Ikaroa-Raawhiti by-election Michael Appleby is welcoming news that
the Cannabis issue was addressed by other candidates in a Native Affairs debate yesterday.
"While I am disappointed not to have been included in the debate, I am glad that the Cannabis issue has been raised as a
key issue in the electorate," Mr Appleby said.
"I decided not to take Maori TV to court over the exclusion as a sign of good faith between ALCP and Maori TV."
While the Maori and Labour party candidates opposed legalisation and the Greens candidate didn't support full
legalisation, Mana's candidate stood proud and declared that cannabis was seen as a positive thing in the electorate.
"I am pleased that Te Hamua Nikora has explained that Marijuana is a natural part of the culture associated with Bob
Marley and Reggae music on the East Coast," Mr Appleby said.
"Bob Marley said that Cannabis would be the 'Healing of the Nations'."
Concentrated Cannabis extracts, such as Rick Simpson Oil, have successfully been used to treat cancer, he said.
