Councillor to Represent New Zealand at Conference on Sustainable Democracy in Brazil
Hawke's Bay regional councillor Liz Remmerswaal is off to Brazil this week to talk about water and sustainability at an international conference on democracy.
The conference takes place in Canoas, Porto Allegre, on June 11-13th, and is the third one on the theme of the Rights and Democracy for Solidarity and Sustainable Metropolises.
Over one thousand participants, from 200 cities and 50 countries, covering the American, African, Asian and European continents will attend.
The forum will
bring together representatives of local governments and
civil society worldwide and the themes include Identities
and Multipolarity,
Governance and Participation,
Globalization and Metropolisation, Common good and living
well,as well as Equality and Gender Policy.
Mrs Remmerswaal says it is an incredible opportunity to engage with the crucial issues of water and sustainability from a global perspective and a great honor to represent her country.
She looks forward to sharing what she has learnt upon her return.
