City Vision Candidates Selected and Campaigning
City Vision is the first team to select candidates and start campaigning across the Waitemata and Albert-Eden-Roskill
wards for this year’s Auckland Council elections.
“Over the past three years our elected members on the Governing Body of Council, Local Boards, Licensing Trusts, and the
Auckland District Health Board have led the way. With strong and effective incumbents in place, and an exciting group of
community-connected new candidates, we are ready and eager to take our message out to the people of our communities”
says City Vision spokesperson Gwen Shaw.
“Our communities need a strong voice in the Auckland Council structure, and it is City Vision who will provide that. In
our communities we are the only team who stands for:
• Public ownership of our important community assets.
• Better public transport including completion of the City Rail Link
• Giving our communities a real voice by delegating responsibility and resources to the local level.
“City Vision is ready and organised. We will be taking our campaign to local streets and town centres to hear from local
people and to win their support. Local people deserve a strong community voice and we will deliver”, says Gwen Shaw.
City Vision’s confirmed candidates for the Auckland Council Election are:
Waitemata & Gulf Islands Ward
Mike Lee
Mike Lee runs for election as an Independent with the endorsement and support of City Vision.
Mike Lee has served as Ward Councillor for Waitemata and Gulf Islands since 2010, and prior to that was Chair of the
Auckland Regional Council. As Chair of Auckland Council’s Transport committee Mike has led the way in advocating for
better public transport in Auckland, including completion of the City Rail Link. With a strong belief in public service
and an established track record, Mike is a respected and influential voice for his community within Council.
Waitemata Local Board – City Vision
Tricia Reade
Tricia Reade is an enthusiastic and involved member of the first Waitemata Local Board, with specific responsibilities
for heritage, community development and cultural portfolios. She has lived in the area for many years participating in
local activities, and passionately believes in the ‘community voice’ and wishes to continue contributing to her local
board’s communities.
Russell Hoban
Russell is a long-time and community involved Ponsonby resident, who brings thirty years of hands-on experience within
Local Government in the areas of building, noise, liquor licensing, environmental health, public health, drainage, water
and emergency pollution management. He is a strong promoter of human rights, equity and unity through diversity.
Deborah Yates
Deborah Yates is a Grey Lynn resident with a passion for Auckland, its unique geographical setting and culturally
diverse population. She offers many years professional experience as a social justice advocate and a lifelong interest
in environmental issues to its transformation into a well-managed, healthy and beautiful city for all.
Christopher Dempsey
Residential quality of life issues, supporting marginalised communities, and sorting out local active transport issues
drive Christopher Dempsey’s involvement in local government. A Parnell resident, Christopher, believes that streets,
neighbourhoods and different communities lie at the heart of local government and has successfully and effectively
committed the past nine years as an elected representative to these issues.
Shale Chambers
Shale Chambers as inaugural Chair of the Waitemata Local Board for the last 3 years has led an effective team providing
a strong local voice to our communities. Shale is a long-standing local Ponsonby lawyer, recently director of several
large companies, Beaumont Quarter resident, and a committed advocate for preservation of our heritage and character.
Vernon Tava
Vernon Tava is a lawyer at the Grey Lynn community law centre and lives in the city centre. Vernon is a committed to
turning city spaces into vibrant living spaces, re-connecting Auckland's centre and surrounding suburbs with cycleways
and walkways, and protecting our built and natural heritage.
Pippa Coom
As Deputy Chair of the Waitemata Local Board Pippa Coom works full time for the City Centre and Central suburbs that
make up the Waitemata area. She leads the Community and Transport-West portfolios and is chair of the Grants Committee.
She is proud of what the City Vision-led Board has achieved and is committed to continuing with projects and initiatives
that foster and develop connected and sustainable communities.
Albert-Eden-Roskill Ward – City Vision
Cathy Casey
Dr Cathy Casey, the current Albert-Eden-Roskill ward Councillor is experienced and effective. She is a strong advocate
for building strong inclusive communities across Auckland with access to quality council services and facilities like
libraries and community centres.
Peter Haynes
As Albert-Eden Local Board Chair, Peter Haynes has worked to protect Albert-Eden’s heritage and character, improve our
open spaces and strengthen the local economy. A strong believer in local democracy and transparent processes, he looks
forward to greater emphasis on community-led initiatives in the next term.

Maungawhau Subdivision
Lisa Loveday
Lisa Loveday left a busy corporate life allowing her time to work within her community. Passionate about everything
local, Lisa is the driving force behind a number of community initiatives including the Sandringham Farmers’ Market.
Awarded outstanding volunteer service by Albert -Eden Local Board 2012.
Peter Haynes
As Albert-Eden Local Board Chair, Peter Haynes has worked to protect Albert-Eden’s heritage and character, improve our
open spaces and strengthen the local economy. A strong believer in local democracy and transparent processes, he looks
forward to greater emphasis on community-led initiatives in the next term.
Godfrey Rudolph
Godfrey Rudolph is a proud father of four standing for the Albert/Eden Local Board. He is a passionate advocate for a
transparent Council that provides equitable and quality decision making for the community by the community.
Rohan Evans
Rohan Evans is a father of two who lives in Mt Eden and works in the arts and entertainment industry. He is a passionate
advocate of housing and transport policies for a vibrant, sustainable Auckland.
Owaiwaka Subdivision
Graeme Easte
Graeme Easte is a Mount Albert resident with a wealth of experience as a community activist and 20-years service in
local government. He is particularly keen to continue working to improve public transport and the health of our local
streams.
Helga Arlington
Helga is a sitting member of the Albert-Eden Local Board and a former law librarian. She's a long-standing local
resident, and as a Board member in the very first term of the new Auckland Council has advocated for real influence for
Local Boards and the local voice, for stronger local villages and a community enriched by great libraries, arts, local
facilities and events.
Glenda Fryer
Glenda has a long history of community service in Albert-Eden with 12 years as a City Councillor and Community Board
Chair. She has fought hard to retain the character and heritage of Mt Albert, prevent over intensification of our
residential neighbourhoods, and to make our ‘hood’ a wonderful place for families to live, work and play.
Margi Watson
Margi Watson is the Deputy Chair of the Albert Eden Local Board and was instrumental in securing good community and open
space outcomes from the SH20 Waterview Project. A trained nurse, Chair of a School Board, Trustee of the Mt Albert
Aquatic Centre and parent to school aged children, Margi strives to promote cohesive communities, quality parks and
recreational facilities.
Puketapapa Local Board – Roskill Community Voice
Michael Wood
Michael is a Dad of two from Roskill South, a sitting member of the Puketapapa Local Board, and has wide involvement and
experience in a range of community groups. He is a passionate supporter of Roskill's parks and heritage, and believes
that it is time for Roskill to receive a fairer share of Council resources.
Garth Houltham
Garth is a father of one son and has resided in Hillsborough for sixteen years. He is committed to protecting the
heritage of Roskill, improving public transport and getting a fairer deal for Roskill residents.
Julie Fairey
Julie is a current member of the Puketapapa Local Board and helped to establish the Puketapapa Garden Web to support
Roskill's community gardens. She has a strong interest in helping advocate for our area's needs, in particular better
access to community funding and public input to Council decision-making.
Harry Doig
Harry has been involved with community development for a number of years - the last two in Puketapapa / Mt Roskill. He
believes that Puketapapa residents should have a greater say in how their community works and believes that the Local
Board is a great way for residents to have their say.
David Holm
David has lived in the Puketapapa Board area since 1970 and sees it as a great place to bring up a family. He is keen
for the Board to involve the community in initiatives to provide local employment, reduce congestion and plan for
liveable housing and recreation facilities.
Shail Kaushal
Shail is City Vision’s youngest candidate and brings with him fresh thinking, new ideas about leadership, and great
energy. He is also committed to being a voice for Mt Roskill’s diverse ethnic communities. A proud graduate from Mt
Roskill Intermediate and Grammar, he is passionate about sustainability, giving youth a fair go, putting families first
and developing safer communities with better resourcing for Roskill.
Auckland District Health Board – City Vision Health
Jo Agnew
Jo is a wife, mother of two and a Registered nurse who works in Nursing Education. She has served on the ADHB for the
last six years. Two areas of great interest and concern to Jo are the Disability sector and the older person’s health
sector. Jo believes it is imperative that nursing as a profession is represented on the ADHB so that patient advocacy is
prioritised and a clinical focus is maintained.
Will 'Ilolahia
Will is a Pasifika grandfather of 12, born and bred in Auckland's CBD. He has been a Gullian barre Syndrome sufferer and
wants to be strong advocate for patients on the DHB. He believes that the DHB must serve the interests of all New
Zealanders, both new and old.
Helen Gaeta
Helen works in the Health Faculty at AUT University, teaching neuroscience and conducting research on the ageing brain.
Helen believes equal access to preventive and primary health care is a cornerstone of social wellbeing.
Robyn Northey
Robyn is a sitting member of the DHB and has worked her whole adult life I in front line health services as a Chief
Executive, General Manager of Age Care and Disability Services, Health Social Worker and School Dental Nurse. She
believes that all Aucklanders who are sick or have a disability should receive effective and timely treatment and
services.

Portage Licensing Trust – City Vision
Lorraine Wilson
Lorraine Wilson is passionate about the work of the Portage Licensing Trust which operates a socially responsible
business and provides great opportunities for our young people keen to join the hospitality industry.

As a current Portage Licensing Trustee Catherine enjoys seeing local communities thrive. Having lived in the Trust area
for over forty years she intends to continue working for improved community outcomes.
