It’s Your Choice So Let’s Hear Your Voice
Lower Hutt Mayor, Ray Wallace, today announced a survey seeking the views of residents on the future of regional governance was available at www.yourvoiceyourchoice.org.nz.
The website is a joint initiative with Upper Hutt City Council.
Mayor Wallace says now the Wairarapa councils have submitted a proposal for change with the Local Government Commission, it is imperative Hutt City residents have their say about any future local government reform.
“The Wairarapa proposal is for an independent unitary authority which we think is a robust, balanced approach. However, our survey provides three options for residents to consider: an enhanced status quo, a united Hutt Valley Council or a single council for the Wellington region.
“Our view is we will listen to our community and then decide whether to make a submission or not.
“I strongly encourage all residents and ratepayers to complete the survey either online or by picking up a form from their local library as we need a strong, clear direction from them.”
A public meeting on the issue will be held on 6 June at The Angus Inn, the Woburn Room, starting at 6.30 pm.
