Te Hamua Nikora is the MANA Party Candidate for the Ikaroa Rawhiti By-Election
Wednesday 22nd May 2013
“I am pleased to announce Te Hamua Nikora as the MANA Candidate for the Ikaroa Rawhiti By-Election” stated MANA Movement Secretary Gerard Hehir.
“MANA branches in Ikaroa-Rawhiti hosted selection candidate hui in Gisborne, Hastings, and Wainuiomata.  At each hui the two candidates spoke followed by questions from the floor.  Each hui was attended by around 50 people. MANA members at each hui voted for their preferred candidate and the MANA Movement Executive enthusiastically endorsed their choice, which was also the unanimous recommendation of the selection panel”.
“The candidacy was contested by Te Hamua and Leon Hawea. Both men spoke passionately about what values they believe in, about the issues confronting Maori in Ikaroa-Rawhiti, and about why they would be the best person to represent MANA. Each man represented themselves, their whanau, hapu and iwi with dignity and mana”.
“The MANA Movement has received a ton of interest from people who want to help with the campaign; from donating money, to being a door-knocker, to wanting to organise hui.  I am extremely confident that as a movement we are ready to give this by-election our best shot and our candidate stands every chance of winning the seat”.
