Libertarianz Pays Tribute To Baroness Thatcher

PRESS RELEASE

Libertarianz Pays Tribute To Baroness Thatcher

Libertarianz Party leader Richard McGrath today praised the legacy of Margaret Thatcher, saying she was a model for all politicians and political parties.

"First and foremost, Mrs Thatcher was an idealogue - someone who acted on principle; who stuck to those principles through thick and thin; and who paid scant attention to popularity polls, consensus, focus groups and political correctness."

"Her push for smaller government, lower taxes and - above all else - the restoration of property rights and freedom for the common man, salvaged a nation described as the Sick Man of Europe from its seemingly inevitable demise."

"Her unswerving belief in the resilience of the British people, and her determination to see her policies through, prevented the United Kingdom from becoming an outpost of the Soviet Union. Her deregulation and privatisation of union-bound terminally-ill industries led to lasting economic recovery."

"Even the manufacturing sector, which many of her detractors claim she destroyed, increased productivity between 1979 and 1990."

"Today's Western leaders are pale imitations of Prime Minister Thatcher, whose refusal - along with that of President Reagan - to tolerate communist totalitarianism eventually led to the liberation of tens of millions of enslaved Eastern Europeans."

"To many, her crowning achievement was the revival of the concept of political integrity. You always knew what her basic beliefs were and - Cabinet backsliding notwithstanding - she acted according to those beliefs."

"Our party salutes the life of Mrs Thatcher, and offer condolences to her family."
